Volcanoes National Park, The park was established in 1925 making it one of the oldest national parks in Africa. And serves as the world’s only habitat for the mountain gorillas. The park an area of approximately 160sq kilometers and is located in the far northwest of Rwanda. The park has a mountainous landscape, green forests, lakes, rivers and it has a cool weather because of its high altitude.

The steep slopes of magnificent mountain range are inhabited by endangered mountain gorillas. Covered by 4 types of vegetation; Bamboo, Hageria, hyperilum and a rich mosaic of montane ecosystem. The park derives its name from a chain of dormant volcanoes. That make up the Virunga massif which include; Karisimbi, Bisoke, Sabinyo, Gahinga and Muhabura.

Although the park is famously known for mountain gorillas. Other mammals such as bushbacks , golden monkeys, buffalos, elephants and numerous bird species call it home.

Meanwhile the primary activity at the park is mountain gorilla tracking. Bird watching, hiking, canoeing, village exploration and visiting the ancient caves of Musanze. Visitors also pay homage by visiting the tomb of Dian Fossey a great primatologist. Who dedicated her life towards making research and conserving the mountain gorillas among other animals.
